I recently tried to set up for a 35deg fingernail profile, only to find that the gouge would not go far enough in before running out of flute. Brand new 3/8 spindle gouge! Can someone explain how to achieve this and also what happens when the gouge wears down with use and again runs out of flute?

Have you got the profile jig set to the default angle of 120°? If you have and you still can't get the grinding angle on the gouge then you may need to alter the angle of the jig but make a note of it and don't forget to reset to 120° for the rest of your tools. Edit: found this, see page 25. www.axminster.co.uk/media/downloads/210952_manual.pdf
