I have a Robert Sorby Pro-Edge Plus sharpening system with several additional items, one of which is the Pro-set measuring jig. Previously I had the 447 de luxe system with an angle measuring jig. On the 447 the instructions were to push the gouge through the fingernail profiler by 2 inches.
The Pro-Edge Pro-set seems to require the gouge to be pushed through the profiler by more than two inches. Can anyone confirm that the Pro-set measurement supersedes the 447 measurement when using the Pro-Edge Plus sharpening system?

Sorry I haven't replied to this previously, I don't use the ProEdge so left it for someone else...
Not having the jig you are specifically asking about I can only give general advice, and that is marker pen! cover the bevel of a known good grind in ink, put it in place and turn the belt (or wheel) by hand if an even line over the whole bevel is taken from the ink you are good to go, leading edge needs more protrusion, trailing edge needs less. Once you have the measurement that suits you, the jig will allow you to recreate it.
Sorry not a full answer, but maybe the new post will trigger a better response.

Thanks for any help on this part...a snip from a user.
The biggest issue that I have with the ProEdge is that although it sharpens chisels well, the angle guide on the machine has no correlation to the sharpening angle of the chisel unless the top and bottom surfaces of the chisel are parallel..........
I've never seen such a chisel. The problem is that the marked angle is referenced off the top face of the chisel which is tapered. The sharpening angle of a chisel should be referenced off the back face of the chisel.
So are there good quality chisels that have a parallel face and back? So that the pre sets on the table are accurate?
Seems there would be use for an aftermarket jig that references off the back for many chisels that you can't sharpen on the S PE the way it is. Lets do it as a crowd source project?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Would like to use the S P Edge on ALL my chisel if possible

A snip from a review...
I have a set of Japanese chisels which of course should only be flat ground due to the brittle laminated edge, for which this machine is suitable. Because the V-shaped chisel back does not sit properly on the tool platform I held the chisel face to the underside instead. To make this possible I unscrewed the Fingernail Boss Bar, which I don’t need and was in the way of the chisel handle. The 90°jig cannot be used in this instance, but these chisels don’t have parallel sides anyway.
Does anyone have a good way to sharpen such chisels on the SE Pro?
Again thanks in advance.... If a nice fixture was made, would the SP Edge excel at this?
