Hi,
I bought my ProEdge a few years ago, didn't get on very well with it and stored it away. It's an expensive machine so I've got it out again and had another go, no more successful than last time. I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but have no idea what, can anybody help please?
I'm trying to grind plane irons square at the moment. I'm using the basic machine with a sliding chisel rest. I've squared up the rest, checked that the platen is at 90 degrees when its set at 90. Set the chisel rest at 90 degrees to the platen. I'm being really careful to hold the iron square and steady, moving side to side only as much as necessary.
I've attached some photos to show the results. It's not grinding at right angles, the grind is curved, it's unusable. I've tried and retried, same results. I've now stopped for the time being , before I grind my blades to nothing. I've used an ordinary bench grinder in the past, hand held, and had far better results, so I feel I'm reasonably competent.
Does anyone have any idea what's happening and how I might correct it please? I will search through previous threads in the meantime. Thanks.

The most common mistake made with the proedge is too much pressure. Mine is used only for turning tools and rough sharpening bench chisels. So I don't have the experience to correctly answer your question so I am going to ask Clive to take a look.

Thank you for your reply. I'm being really careful not to apply too much pressure, so I don't think it's that. I'm only trying to rough sharpen myself, I'll finish on a stone.
