I just inherited a ProEdge that was shipped to me and when I turned it on for a first test there is an super loud squeal coming from the unit. I took the belt off and just rotated the bottom drive shaft by hand and there is a rubbing metal noise as the shaft is rotated. My guess is something got loose in shipping and the shaft is rubbing someplace. Has anyone encountered this before and have any tips on how to straighten/balance it?

Take of the belt guard and you will see the bottom pully can easily be removed, it is possible it has moved on the drive shaft loosen it let it find it's right place see if that sorts it out. Please come back and let me know if it works or if it doesn't we can look at other possibilities.

I figured it out. A part of the cowling on the fan got bashed in while being shipped and the fan blades were grinding into it. I took the cowling off and beat out the dent and now the ProEdge is purring.
