i "restore" od tools and find the PE useful for flattening the back of corroded cutters. i've recently posted a description of the restoration of a barn-find moulding plane, where this technique was used. its on the Tools and Trades |History Society website, in the Conservation Notes section. link:

on reflection, i should add 2 points re the use of the Pro-Edge.
1 - you need to be careful to holdthe cutter against the platen so that you do not hazard yourself; i stand alongside the PE, but you'll work out what is best for you.
2 - the PE cuts quickly, so be cautious so be careful to apply the cutter to the belt so tht it does not cut a groove across the cutter. useful to use a fine belt rather than a coarse one.
both of these benefit from a bit of practice. and a foot control would be useful [or a third hand!].
