Hi Folks,
Would anyone be able to share their experiences sharpening axes on the ProEdge? Do you do it free hand or can one "jig" it somehow?
Cheers!

Hi Ryan, Not done an axe on the Proedge before but Nic Westermann over and "Hewn and Hone" sells a jig for it (caveat: the head needs to be unhandled). www.hewnandhone.co.uk/product/axe-grinding-jig/He also sells various other jigs for sharpening some carving tools on the Proedge.

May attempt a hatchet on a proedge, but a full width axe I would be looking for an alternative method.

Thanks, danf. I just noticed that they also sell a bar for the ProEdge on which, they say, jigs from wheel sharpening systems can be mounted. I suppose a Tormek axe jig could then attach to that, but I wouldn't want to try it without hearing another's experience first.

I’m late to the conversation but it I have sharpened axes and hatchets. I do it free hand, using the coarse belt and hand hone with a standard round ax wet stone. I lay the belt almost flat to provide plenty of room.
