Having bought the ProEdge Plus, I can't really justify spending more on the knife jig.
Has anybody sharpened knives “freehand” rather than using a knife jig?
Any advice on angles, et hoc genus omne, please?

The advantage of the knife jig kit is you get the raised platten .
This raises the belt above the normal position and allows you to run the blade ver the belt.
If you try to sharpen a knife with the standard platten you will foul up on the upright arm on the left.

The raise platten doesn't appear any of the images of the knife jig that I've seen to date.
