Hi all, I just made a quick and (not so) dirty modification to make the pro edge accept Tormek style jigs. Especially for wider plane irons I find this way of working useful. An iron block with a 12mm drilled hole and set screws to hold the 12mm bar in place. Iron block screwed to threaded holes in the pro edge main body. Iron block and 12mm bar are designed and position to not interfere with the standard tool rest or the lever for loosening belt tension. Some pics attached for those who are interested. _

I have seen a Pro Edge with an Ultimate Edge guide rod fitted as well.

I have seen a Pro Edge with an Ultimate Edge guide rod fitted as well. That's interesting. I assume that's a more simple solution but as far as I can remember the UE wasn't released when I modified my Pro Edge. Do you happen to have pics of the Pro Edge with UE guide rod?

Here's some pics of one way of attaching a 12mm rod, which enables UE or Tormek-style jigs to be utilised. It utilises the existing tapped hole (and blank holes at the rear) which Sorby have conveniently provided. The spacer is a 25mm thick aluminium "tooling plate" which has 2 faces ground flat (and parallel). The rod and bracket is intended for the UE but works well on the PE.

Picture of my ProEdge with the UE system. Just one of many modifications I have done to my PE.

Do you have a part number for that UE system? I am not sure that it is something I would want, I use my PE exclusively for woodturning tools, and it has all I need. But there may be other forum users who would appreciate part numbers so they can copy your idea.

Very inspiring! I was wondering if anyone have used the Sorby knife jig to achieve the same? Or if anyone owning a knife jig, was able to measure the diameter of the rod on it to see if it would fit the tormek and etc jigs.

To reply to Pete's question, both myself and laymarcrafts (see their post above) have used the "Axminster Trade Compound Jig" (intended for their Ultimate Edge machine). As I don't have the milling equipment to machine a long slot in metal (to form the bracket to which the 12mm steel rod attaches) I took the easy way out and used the slotted arm and 12mm o/d steel rod which comes with the Axminster jig. This I bolt to the side of the PE using the threaded hole provided, plus a 25mm thich aluminium block (as a spacer.) Interestingly, the UE jig attachment block is fitted with 4 tapped holes - in each corner by the securing holes. Each contain a grub screw which is used - on the UE- to square up the 12mm rod to the platen. No such adjustment was necessary when I attached the jig arm to the PE. I should explain that I do actually use the Sorby adjustable angle table, which is the heart of the machine in my view, and incredibly useful. However, it's somtimes also equally useful to have a 12mm diameter bar attachment, as that will enable Tormek jigs to be used as well.
