I just received my Pro Edge,I had been sharpening my wood turning tools on a grinder with CBN wheels.I have noticed that when using the Pro Edge the tool has a tendency to bounce,It does make sharpening using the platform somewhat difficult.Of course just a short time using. Is this normal or is there is some adjustment that can be made.I have been using the 120 grit beltsahapening my bowl gouge with a 40/40 grind. Thanks, Jerry

Welcome to the forum, Jerry. A couple common culprit guesses: If you change to another belt, does the trouble follow? If the trouble doesn't follow, I would suspect the belt. Related to this, many belts have arrows on the inside surface, indicating the preferred direction. You may have the belt set in the wrong direction. ( doing a quick test with the belt mointed in the opposite direction would be a good quick test.)
If these don't work, post again.

Contact Sorby direct on sales@robert-sorby.co.uk they don't seem to be coming to the forum anymore Check the state and alignment of the table behind the belt, it should be smooth and flat and perfectly aligned to the belt, if it isn't take photo's and send that with your Email to Robert Sorby. The only other question is do you have genuine Sorby belts? they are edge jointed to avoid the bump you would get with an overlap joint.

Like Pete, I am disappointed that Sorby does not seem to follow this forum any more. The forum stats at the bottom left of the main page tells the story. "Zero staff watching in the past twenty four hours." Several members and plenty of guests. Sorby's staff is asleep at the switch.
That said, I have no doubt that Sorby is a reputable company which will support and stand by its products. Email them. Hopefully they will help solve your problem quickly. If, by chance, you are dissatisfied with their response, tell them to email you a postage paid return label and another new unit. All you want is what you have paid for, a properly working unit. You have made a reasonable effort to diagnose and correct the problem. Sorby, like any reputable company, does not want dissatisfied customers. Inform them and let them resolve your problem.
Once things are resolved, please do two things. 1) Post their emails on the forum. This will hopefully benefit other users.
2) Do a mental "reboot" with your frustration and enjoy your Pro Edge and sharp tools.
Keep us posted.

Thanks for your help. I did contact Sorby and the send back I should use their belts.I told them I just got the machine so who's belts did they think I was using.I got a belt from Supergrit and the bounce was much.I am going to return the machine to Hartville Tool.I can't be afraid if I get another the bounce will return.I'll have to pay for shipping, but it's better than paying fore the whole machine.

Sorry.I meant when I got the supergrit belt the bounce was much less, but still there. The belt from supergrit was a little shorter because it toke a little more to get over the pulleys.

Sorby Customer service is regularly first class, before giving up and paying postage, please contact them again ideally with photographs and of course using a Sorby Belt is essential for them to be able to offer support.
I did initially have issues with my ProEdge, I took the belt off photographed the table, the support platform, both from the top and the side with a straight edge from roller to roller to show alignment (that wasn't an issue on mine, but may possibly be on yours)
There is a learning curve to the ProEdge, I got past that with help from here and now have a good relationship with it and it is the best sharpening system for my use.

I agree with Pete. You may be giving up too soon. I second Pete's suggestion that you contact Sorby support again. Be polite, but firm. You should not have to pay to return a defective unit. Either your Pro Edge or the belts are defective. If Sorby thinks the belts are the problem, they should promptly send you new replacement belts at no charge, either directly or through their dealer.
I attended a seminar given by Sorby. Chris Pauncy, the Sorby rep, told us to only use Sorby belts with the PE. They cost more, but were constructed better. The Sorby belts which came with your unit should not be problematic.
If Sorby agrees to ship you replacement belts and a prepaid shipping label for your PE, I would suggest trying to work through the difficulty. I lived near Hartville Tool for almost forty years and am still a customer there. They are a very reputable dealer. They are also the largest hardware store in the US with seven acres under roof. They provide factory authorized service for many brands. If, by chance, you live close enough to drive to Hartville, I would be very surprised if they could not take care of your problem while you are there, whether it involved new belts or swapping and testing another new unit. I would suggest calling first and making an appointment.
Invidentally, if you decide to drive there for the first time, the Hartville Kitchen, located next door and owned by the same Miller family as the hardware store and tool business, has very good food.

Jerry,
I am pleased that you were able to resolve your problem. I am not familiar with either of the two belt sources you mentioned. However, your post may help many other new users who might experience the same difficulty. That's the special value of a forum.
I hope you enjoy using very sharp tools; you have earned this pleasure!
Keep posting!
