Sorry if this is a stupidly obvious question but what's the process for sharpening woodworking hand planes with the PE?
Is the PE mainly used for setting the primary angle before moving accorss to bench stones? Or can the PE produce and maintain a usable edge with the Trizact belts?
Any advice or experience would be most welcome.
Thanks all

The pro edge does not have a dedicated holding jig for chisels or hand planes or any other square tool.
The problem you have is that you can move the blade backwards and forwards so not getting a nice square edge.
Even with the square jig it does not stop this backward forward movement.
You really need a jig like tormek have to hold the tool.
I have been playing with ways to do this but still work in progress.
The trizac belts will give you a very good polished edge but with most hand planes you want a primary and secondary bevel so loose the difference between the 2 bevels as they polish into each other. I feel this is caused by the belt not being a dedicated flat surface like you get from a stone.

Thanks for those interesting couple of points there. Looks like for a 'perfect' edge stones will still be required, currently I just hone my plane on a honing wheel with green paste. I know it's not perfect but it's usable for the cheap planes I have just now. Regarding the grinding of the primary angle, hum I would hope that the pro edge can do that. They have the 'woodworker's square guide' (ref PESQW) which should keep things square enough? www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB29ML0TbTw#t=157It's a bit of a shame they don't have an official sharpening plane irons video, perhaps there's a reason for that but I think they are missing a bit on there marketing. When doing some research on grinding planes on a grinder came across a couple of interesting videos that have some relevant points even though they are for wheeled grinders. www.finewoodworking.com/how-to/video/bench-grinder-basics.aspxblip.tv/popular-woodworking-videos/tricks-in-action-plane-blade-cambering-jig-3964388Thanks for the reply.
