Is there a foolproof way to identify the correct model of a sorby lathe that is in excess of 25 years old eg any unique feature or marking? also I am trying to find out the spindle size of my old sorby lathe but there seems to be multiple possibilities...any advice? Thanks David

The No. 2 Morse-taper headstock spindle ran in sealed-for-life ball races and could be supplied with either a 1-inch x 8 t.p.i English or two metric pitches of 33 x 3.5 mm and 24 x 2 mm. (on metric threads the 3.5 mm and 2 mm are the distance between two thread crests. so you should be able to answer which yours is by measuring it. More info. www.lathes.co.uk/sorby/
