Hi I am Pete, a wood turner and Robert Sorby tool user, and I have just taken on the role of moderator for this forum, I hope to get on top of the spam posts that have affected the forum a lot recently, my primary aim is to keep the forum clean and on topic (he says deliberately posting a Chit Chat topic in the ProEdge section). I am also an enthusiastic tool user and will be able to answer a lot of questions from my own experience, those I can't I will have a direct line to actual Robert Sorby staff to pull in answers I can't give, and will endeavour to learn things I don't currently known to make future questions answerable, but I also want to encourage a group of regular users to be willing and keen to jump in with help and solutions to peoples questions. I should stress I do NOT work for Robert Sorby, but I am hoping to work with them to present this as one of the avenues of entry to enhancing your relationship with the products that Robert Sorby provides, there is of course your dealers website and shop where you can talk tools, and get your hands on them which has to be the finest resource, the main Robert Sorby Website a Facebook Presence and the great YouTube channel What this forum adds to the other great resources is YOU the tool users, and makers who are looking for the perfect tool, or some advice to get past the learning curve of a new tool, I hope that I may help as a catalyst to get some of the hundred or so regular visitors interacting and learning from each other. Pete

Bravo, Pete! You are exactly the breath of fresh air this forum needs. So many companies today have developed tunnel vision and cannot see beyond the direct implications of accounting figures. Every member of this forum is either an actual or a potential Sorby customer. We purchase the brands we know, and we get to know brands we like by learning about them. Good salesmanship is educating the customer. Several years ago, I attended a three hour Sorby seminar presented by Chris Pauncy. Chris did an outstanding job. Look at the forum statistics. Chris reached fifteen people in Columbus, Ohio that day. Our forum stats show that we are reaching around a hundred people on any given day- every day, from all over the planet! That is a huge, mostly untapped market. I applaud Sorby for the wise decision to put Pete at the helm of this forum. Now we need sailors to get this ship moving again. If you and I do not understand something, chances are good that a hundred others would also like to understand it. Chances are also very good that some of already understand it and can share that understanding. That growing understanding will compound into more questions and deeper understanding. Welcome to the helm, Pete. I look forward to good things. phoneman

Community collaboration is critical and really helps generate a love for a product along with education for its users - (as someone who sells these types of community for a living) I would like to see more videos on "how to sharpen" - everyone must have their own technique (good and bad) from which we can all learn. The single (very good) one on the Sorby Yourtube could do with developing to show more detail. Attached is my crib sheet on how I use my Pro-edge for wood turning tools (excel and PDF versions) I have this pinned up in the workshop as a quick reference guide (all feedback welcome - plagiarism permitted for your own personal use ) Attachments:Jig Settings.pdf (104.62 KB)
Jig Settings.xlsx (170.86 KB)

Nicely done and informative charts, Francis! Your charts are a major wheel we don't have to individually reinvent.

Thanks for the welcome Phoneman and Francis, I like the chart idea, though I tend to write on the end of the handles with a sharpie. I will take a closer look later see if I can adapt it for my use

Welcome back, Rob! To borrow a favorite phrase from our happy exchanges on the Tormek forum, with Pete as moderator, "Bob's your uncle."
