Hi, I'm trying to find out which companies made up the Sorby Tool Collective based at the Sorby Works. Apparently a number of wood products makers and iron and steel makers made up the collective. The tools were then sold on to other companies who added their own brand name and then sold them on as hand made. It ceased around 1958. I only found out about it a couple of days ago when I came across a whole stack of planes and the stamps used to add the clients own name.
The Internet does not have any information on it that I can find but the lady who I was speaking to was adament that her father made tools for the collective and his job was to assemble them and add a name if required on the order. When the company closed he kept the tools that were in his possession.

Hi grahamp The Sorby Tool Collective you describe is not something I am aware of. I have asked round the factory but again drawn a blank so unfortunately we can't help you. We do have a guide to Robert Sorby history on the website. This might provide you with an insight. Robert Sorby certainly used a number of brand names over the years including the famous Kangaroo brand. This looks interesting. However, I can only open up the cover page. Would you please post the rest of the article? Thanks, phoneman
