Just joined; located in Bonnie Scotland, the sun is shining but we still have snow on high ground.
I've been messing about with wood for a long time now, general woodwork and carving. When I retired I decided to start turning wood having used an engineers lathe more times than I care to remember for turning many other materials not just metal.
Still hope to do more with wood turning but am currently coming out of retirement to start a business selling electric bicycles!

Likewise...just joined and thought I'd say hi to one and all. I'm based in Reigate, Surrey. I've been turning for a good few years now, plus teaching turning and carving. Main focus now is making musical instruments, predominantly woodwind.

Just joined today. Live in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada. Being a new turner (4 years ) I have a lot to learn. Bought a Pro Edge sharpener last November, but as my workshop is also my vehicle garage, I have just started using it since mid April. I like it so far for the simplicity and constancy of sharpening. I am having a bit of problem obtaining some new belts but the woodworking shop I bought the sharpener from are supposed to be working on it. Have located a supplier in the US but shipping is expensive. Anyway I will be checking the forum frequently for tips and solutions. Frank

Hello everyone, My name is Christopher just joined as well I build custom furniture in the sunshine state of Florida, usa I've been using Robert Sorby turning tools on my lathe since I started turning seven years ago unfortunately i feel as Ive gone backwards instead of forwards in my progress . For sharpening I use the Tormek T7 works extremely well in keeping all my tools sharp. All i own is RS turning tools so don't know anything but. Ive also purchased a few of his paring chisels and I'm happy with those as well. Im sddition Ive also purchased some extremely old "Vintage" Robert Sorby BackSaws so of course thats money thats long since passed the new Robert Sorby company so I hope they don't get mad at me. Ive had to contact the company only one time for a tool and even though there in the UK they resolved the issue within one week by sending me out a new cutter. In my opinion their tools and there service is top of the line . Thanks for allowing me to share this info and everybody have a wonderful day " no snow in these parts" lol chris

Hi all, Just received the email from Sorby's informing about this new forum --excellent idea, so thought I'd take a look. Cool that there are so many people from all over the globe My name is Bob, but no, I am not a builder. I was given that nickname by all the kids around here, mainly because I am always building things to landscape my back garden,(decking etc), and my wife's name is Wendy. UK residents will make the connection! I currently live in Crook, County Durham, and recently found out that I live about 100 metres from Andrew Hall --he of the wooden hats!! Will sign up and post again soon. Have a good day one and all. BB

Just wanted to test the picture adding functionality as not used it yet. Seems to work though the limit is 3 snaps per post it seems.
