Own up, who has still got that rubber band around their Patriot chuck?
Think mine lasted about 1 month from new, is it a week point for Sorby to go back to the drawing board on, or just a label that isn't really supposed to last?

Still got mine the first did break but was replaced FOC. This one has been on there for 4 years now. It is not just decorative it give protection from the jaw carriage when the jaws are fully opened

I should have demanded a replacement at the time, but as I seldom if ever have the jaws fully open it's never been a problem. I have seen many Patriots without the band on them though. Seems to be a common fault.

It will be replaced with nothing more than a phone call. New chucks come with spares these days. It does seal up the ends of the sub jaws from dust infiltration. They've saved a knuckle or two as well.

Thanks Jeff, from your suggestion I phoned Robert Sorby, and completely free of charge I am now in possession of 2 new rubber bands, so my Patriot will be properly dressed again , You wouldn't happen to have 16" of 4" x 4" black walnut I could get so easily would you?

Ah...planet La La Land....my favourite place :-) Hey that's only on the border of la la land, customer wanted two 7" black walnut spheres where the hell do you find that blank in the UK! I do at least have 4"x4" in English walnut though that will be probably another 2 years before it's ready (gone from speckled white to light brown so far) but some that I took down to 1" is a lovely colour so I am hoping the larger pieces will get there one day.

Actually, I have a black walnut trunk, about 18" diameter at the butt, 12 feet long and 13ish inches at the small end, laying around the front of my property. You could get a whole bunch of 4x4x16 out of that...come help me cut it up, and you can have all you want.

Just going to grab my passport, do you think my chainsaw will be allowed in hand luggage I often wonder why I stay in the UK where even Ash may soon be a rare tree.
I have found some, but almost all the black walnut in the UK is 75mm or less due to drying it. and the price is rather high can't afford to make mistakes or there is nothing in the job.
