I don't know if it is the same my Myford Mystro has a 1 1/8" thread, I use the Sorby Patriot with an insert and am very happy with it, jaw change is allen key 2 per jaw for most, I have 3 size dovetail jaws from small to large which are regularly used 1" 2" and 3" the Mystro has a rotating head so I can turn upto 20" bowls (but mostly stick to 10" or less, houses are not as big as they used to be! ) chuck has never let me down.

Hi maddog The Robert Sorby Patriot chuck would be perfectly suited to your Myfird ML8

From the Peter Childs spindle size chart your ML8 has a 1" 12 pitch Whitworth thread spindle, which is a ready made insert for the Patriot chuck, if you are going to buy one take my advice and also buy the steb center for it, they are surprisingly useful for quickly rounding off a spindle and getting the chuck dovetail onto it, I use the 7/8th size, but would buy the 1/2 if I was buying again, they have plenty of grip and the smaller one would allow me to work on small spindles without risk to my spindle gouge while I suspect not having any noticeable lack of drive power. www.robert-sorby.co.uk/chucks/patriot-chuck-system/lstbchuck13-steb-driveIncidentally I often run my lathe in reverse for sanding with a battery drill as the reverse on my battery drill is slow! and never had the Patriot unscrew yet, finishing only... if you are left handed and cutting in reverse then extra precautions should be taken!
