On the suggestion of member dalboy, I've added a section for us to talk about Patriot chucks, Steb centres and other work holding devices for woodturning.

Not sure what I could say about the patriot or steb centre, except if one isn't on the lathe the other is, I bought the Patriot with 2 jaw sets when I first started, and love it, The steb centre came to me when I had a large production run of spindle work to get through, the time it saves is amazing. Then it scores again with giving consistent performance on difficult wood, all 2 and 4 pronged centres are now put away somewhere and forgotten.

Good idea Jeff. I'm yet to try a steb centre but it's been on my shopping list for a while now.

I bought steb centres in about March this year and I agree, cant live without them now. Absolutely fantastic pieces of kit.

Never seen the Kangaroo logo on any of my tools, and first guess is it was a mark used for Australian market, but a quick google shows them as being in the UK, mostly older ones on Ebay though.
I tend to just buy the metalwork from Sorby and make my own handles, I blatantly rip off the shape of Sorby handles, if I turn the red print to the wall it's hard to spot the home made from the purchased, but I may tinker with the length and width I have large hands so prefer the larger diameter handles, have also made handles out of other woods from time to time depending on what I have in the shop, though it is usually ash.

Fantastic bit of kit arn't they, an enterprising marketeer would send them to all non owners on a two week try before you buy and make a fortune, I am sure no one would not buy them, once used there is no going back

Spot on Pete. I saw a Richard Raffan video where he mounts/dismounts spindle stock without even switching off the lathe :-) He just winds out the tailstock far enough to take the finished bit off and insert new blank on.
