Picked up some cobalt drill bits and drilled a 5/6" hole where it needed to be (Described above) to give me a 40 deg angle for my tool rest platforms. It works perfectly. Here are a couple of photos. One is freshly bored hole. Other is after I painted it. Drilling took all of about 5 minutes - slow and easy. Attachments:

Nicely done Steve, but the acid test, does it give you a quick repeatable 40/40

Pete, that's not an equipment question, is it? Given I do the 40/40 grind free hand, so long as the platform is at 40 degrees it will give me as consistent a result as I ever got on other platforms set to 40 degrees. So it's not whether this 40 deg platform gives consistent results, it's whether the operator is capable of using consistent technique to get consistent results. LOL

As this operator gets more experience, it does appear as though sometimes he gets less reliable But we keep quiet about that and resharpen before anyone finds out!!

Can you post a picture of drill bit sharpening please also - on a separate note - Fostner bits - whats the best method of sharpening them Only way I have found to sharpen Forstner bits is with a diamond file, I have sharpened a couple of drill bits on the ProEdge set it at 20° and use marker pen to check that angle against the drill bit. however I have only done this when I didn't have another drill bit the right size, I normally just bin them and use a new one... bad I know but...
