I'm about to install a retractable air hose over the lathe to help with clearing boring projects. Anyone have an opinion or have they done this? I have also found air really assists in higher gloss finishing / waxing and drying.
It also provides an air source to that end of the barn, out of the way as the reel is mounted in the ceiling area to the cross members of the barn and is not interfering with the lathe operation or access. I'm running the source hose over the rafters from the compressor where I installed a manifold allowing multiple hoses.

I use a vacuum to extract the dust when sanding, this is powered by a quite warm shop vac inside an acoustic foam lined cabinet because I hate the noise! this also creates air movement around the work if I need to. I have not noticed a problem which would need an airline, and compressed air when finishing would generally stir up the main enemy to a good finish, i.e. my workshop is dusty and I really want a separate finishing shop, especially when working flat projects, e.g. tables or chairs. The dust that has occupied the crevices small spaces of my workshop is best left undisturbed.
